Description
The source of the sound work is the collapsed homepage of The Wounded Heart Ministries website. It was established to support Christian pastors and church workers who have been fired or forced to resign from their positions. A screen shot of the, appropriately, wounded page has undergone a technological process of translation called data-bending. This involves converting one digital manifestation of the source into another. In this instance, the image file is changed into a sound file.

The process is as follows: the image capture is, first, converted into a variety of formats (JPEG, TIFF, GIF, etc.); these, in turn, are transformed into a RAW format, which enables them to be imported into, and manipulated using, sound software. Subsequently, they are saved as stereo, 8, 16, and 32-bit, 6000 and 8000 Hz, WAV files. These sound outputs are then sifted for useable material and collaged together to form a new whole, one that follows the spirit and formalities of the source image.  In this instance, the image’s repeated motifs, superimpositions, erasures, deformations, distortions, and areas of relative inactivity inform the processes, structure, and character of the sound work.
